Real Dramatic Housewives-- Elizabeth Barger

I love to admit that I am enthralled with “The Real Housewives” franchise on Bravo. The fact that the show can bring us perspective in the life of the rich is intriguing. We are given a taste of their lives; their huge, expensive homes, elegant furniture, yards with pools and tennis courts. There is no other explanation why viewers keep tuning in. The show depicts the lives of the wealthy and for a little while we get to experience the life of the rich, and now somewhat famous. What about this show do we love to see? Is it the money or the drama? Both? We may never know but the fact that the show keeps running means that something they are showing works.

Watching the show only makes it worse. I feel jealous every time I watch them go on the unlimited budget shopping sprees, drive hundred thousand dollar cars, own elegant homes and an incalculable number of shoe . It only makes me upset when I see all the things I want in the possession of someone that I do not want to have it.

When I watch housewife Kim Zolciak sit there always drinking, chain smoking, while ordering her friend/assistant knowing she has not worked for one thing just grinds my gears. She is so spoiled and for what? The fact that she began an intimate relationship with married millionaire business man Lee Najjar, better known on the show by his nickname ‘Big Poppa,’ to retain anonymity and has been living on his fortune for about three years. Once the inevitable end of that relationship took place she moved onto another man with money, Kroy Bierman of the Atlanta Falcons.

First of all she involved herself in an affair, which just goes to show how low the morality of some people can be. Not only is that the fault of Kim, but of course with Lee! No wonder he wanted to remain anonymous on the show. Allegedly, he is in process of getting a divorce and “his current Big Momma got tired of all the public scandalous embarrassment of having her husband’s mistress flaunt all the expensive gifts.” Second, she has the audacity to accept money from him. Being a mistress does not put you in the most powerful position, but she found herself on the receiving end of some allowances.

Someone who seems to offer the least amount of perspective of the stylish life of the wealthy we wonder why Bravo would even put this woman on television. She causes nothing but trouble, she does not stand for anything respectable, and she does not seem to be doing anything to keep income coming into her household on her own. We hate to watch her but we love to hate her! Every time she and Nene begin arguments, like when Nene called Kim a ‘dirty player,’ I can’t help but get excited for Kim to get what she deserves.

I often wonder why we watch some of the things that we do. However, when I think about it, it makes sense. It’s the combination of everything; the money, drama and location. That’s what our society likes watch, a multi-faceted television show that you can relate to on multiple levels.
